From Lincoln Park to Detroit: Local Artist Steals the Spotlight at Emerge Festival |
Marta Carvajal's journey from Madrid to Michigan culminates in a celebrated showcase at the Hannan Center's centennial event. |
Marta Carvajal, a Lincoln Park resident originally from Madrid, has become a focal point at Detroit's Emerge! Art Festival.
Her mixed-media pieces, blending painting and collage, narrate personal histories and cultural connections.
Carvajal's artistic journey began in Spain, where she studied fine arts and worked in publishing.
Upon relocating to metro Detroit, she found inspiration in the city's diverse artistic community.
"Detroit artists create with a purpose," she notes.
"The art is alive, authentic, and full of soul."
The Emerge! Art Festival, hosted by the Hannan Center, celebrates artists aged 55 and older.
This year's theme, "100 Years Unbound: The Power of Aging," marks the center's centennial, highlighting the creativity and resilience of older adults.
Carvajal's participation is a testament to her dedication and the festival's mission to honor lifelong artistic contributions.
Her works are on display at the Ellen Kayrod Gallery within the Hannan Center, located at 4750 Woodward Avenue, Detroit.
The exhibition runs from October 18, 2025, through January 14, 2026, with gallery hours Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Admission is free, inviting the public to experience the rich tapestry of art that continues to thrive in Detroit's aging community.
