End of an Era: Downriver's Petri Bikes to Close After Nearly 80 Years

Woodhaven's beloved bike shop announces closure amid industry shifts and retirements

After nearly eight decades of serving the Downriver community, Petri Bikes, also known as Al Petri & Sons Bicycles, has announced it will close its doors on November 29, 2025.

Established in 1946 by Al and Joyce Petri, the shop has been a cornerstone for cycling enthusiasts in Woodhaven, Michigan.

The Petri family cited significant changes in the bicycle retail industry and upcoming retirements within their team as primary reasons for the decision.

In a heartfelt message, they expressed deep gratitude to their customers, friends, and supporters, emphasizing the invaluable relationships built over the years.

While the closure marks the end of an era, Woodhaven continues to experience a surge in new business developments.

Recent additions include Rev'd Up Fun, an entertainment venue offering a variety of indoor activities, and The Big Salad, a healthy dining restaurant that opened its doors in July 2025.

Additionally, a new Culver's location is slated to open in the near future, further diversifying the local dining scene.

These developments reflect Woodhaven's dynamic growth and the community's resilience in adapting to changing economic landscapes.

As Petri Bikes prepares to bid farewell, the Downriver community honors its legacy and looks forward to embracing new opportunities on the horizon.
